Alumni

The vision of the Department of Physics Alumni is to take a core role in the promotion of active leadership in the community by promoting interaction among the Alumni, in the student community, society and Physics related industry.

Our mission is to represent and depict interests of the members and to use their talents and resources in support of Department's quest to achieving its goals and exercising social responsibility. We are driven by the values of courtesy, honesty, integrity and professionalism

The Association which is non political has the following objectives:

  • To develop alumni programmes that promotes effective networks amongst its members.
  • To promote the academic, physical, and moral growth of the members of the Department.
  • To assist the Department in the growth and advancement of its socio-cultural and co-curricular activities.
  • To enhance the involvement of the Department in Community Service.
  • To liaise with Associations of other Institutions of Higher Learning both locally and internationally.
  • To project a positive image of the Department.

Notable Alumni:

Dr. Davis Chirchir

Dr Davis Chirchir is the newly appointed  Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum in the Kenya Government. He has previously served as a commissioner at the Interim Independent Electoral Commission and also as a General Manager at Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation where he coordinated the restructuring of KPTC to create Telkom Kenya, Communication Commission of Kenya, Postal Corporation of Kenya and staff Pension Fund. Besides being a holder of Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Physics from the University of Nairobi, he also  holds a Masters of Business Administration in International Management from Royal Holloway School of Management at the University of London.

Katoo Ole Metito

Katoo Ole Metito (born 1973) is a prominent Kenyan politician who has previously served in  the Ministries of Regional Development and provincial administration and Internal Security in the Kenyan government. He holds a B.Sc  in Microprocessor Technology and Instrumentation from the University of Nairobi and a Higher Diploma (Management of Information Systems) from Strathmore College.

Nyimbi Odero

Nyimbi Odero, is a serial entrepreneur, former Google executive, and adviser to the Nigerian election commission

Cecilia Anyango Nyamwandha

She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Science-Physics from the University of Nairobi as well as diplomas in Basic Physics and Earth System Physics from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. Currently, Cecilia is pursuing a PhD in Earth Sciences-Geophysics at the Center for Earthquake Research and Information at the University of Memphis.
 
During her time at the University of Nairobi, Cecilia co-founded two physics associations-one specifically for women physicists.
Linda Wangoh

Pursuing Phd in experimental condensed matter physics, specifically the electronic structure and surface chemistry of functional metal oxides, using a combination of x-ray spectroscopic techniques at SUNY Binghamton.
