Dr. Justus SimiyuThe World Energy Day (WED) is observed yearly on October 22nd to  raise  awareness  of  global  energy-related  issues. This year, the WED event was organized by Eenovators Ltd, at the Business School, Strathmore University. The climax of these events is the World Energy Forum that was held in New York (UN Headquarters) from October 20 to 22 whose theme this year was “2030 Development Agenda and Energy for All”.

Dr. Justus Simiyu is Senior Lecturer and Lead trainer in Photovoltaic sizing, installation and maintenance at the Department of Physics, UoN. He is passionate about energy conservation, innovation and development in areas of renewable energy, specifically Photovoltaics, which is his area of research. On this event, Dr. Simiyu gave a talk entitled "RENEWABLE ENERGY: GLOBAL TRENDS, EMERGING MARKETS AND
TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS
".

The Africa Spectral Imaging Network (AFSIN) is an active collaboration between physicists in eight African countries (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Senegal and Togo) and one Asian country (Sri Lanka). The network has received International Science Programme (ISP) support since 2011.

Prof. Edward Kirumira, Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Makerere University delivers a talk on how to communicate research findings effectively 

Communication of research findings is a major challenge especially for new researchers and postgraduate students. Despite efforts put in by new researchers and postgraduate students, publishing a new research in a recognized scholarly journal can be a nightmare. However, this shouldn’t be the case, as indicated by Prof. Edward Kirumira, the principal of the college of Humanities and Social Sciences at Makerere University. In the presentation delivered at the Department of Meteorology, Prof. Kirumira stressed that research writing should encompass a working title which help focus on the goal.
